Dave has over 45 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, and remains a well-respected and highly-sought after industry expert. During Dave’s career, he represented many large clients, including American International Group, St. Paul Insurance Company, Chubb, and Travelers, as well as many foreign operations, including Lloyd’s of London, Zurich Insurance Company, and Munich Re. Dave has had extensive dealings with the Bermuda market in advising formation, underwriting, and marketing input.
A 1970 graduate of Seton Hall University, he began his insurance career with Geico before joining a start-up reinsurance intermediary in 1974. In 1990 he became President and CEO. In 1995 the company was sold to a subsidiary of General Electric, and he continued with GE until its sale to the Benfield Group in 1998.
Dave brings extensive experience to 1st Watch Global as a well-respected insurance industry leader and business developer. His depth of knowledge and understanding forms the foundation of our relationships with the insurance industry in supporting all aspects of security for our clients.
In early 2001 Dave was asked to join a major reinsurance firm with the goal of expanding that firm’s Property Catastrophe business. Dave became the Senior Vice President of marketing and was instrumental in increasing the firm’s annual premium from $190 million to over $750 million in less than three years.
Following retirement, Dave was contracted by a new Managing General Agency that wanted to underwrite Accountants’ and Lawyers’ Professional Liability insurance, but having little success in finding a policy issuing company. Dave was able to arrange a partnership with an A.M. Best A+ rated insurer within thirty days. The program has been exceptionally profitable and quickly developed an annual premium of over $30 million.
Because of his close association with many Senior Reinsurance Executives in the U.S., Dave was asked to organize an annual gathering of top executives to discuss topics of mutual interest. He was readily able to secure the attendance of the top twelve Reinsurance Executives. Since the first meeting in 1998, the event has become one of the most important annual gatherings of Reinsurance company executives in the United States.
